If you're considering attending the CHEERS Summer Fest this weekend (Sep 9-10) but wondering if there's kid-friendly entertainment, wonder no more! There's a long list of super fun stuff happening that's family-friendly - read on!




From stage performances featuring hula hoop dancing to wandering acts like a living statue plus carnival games, the CHEERS Summer Fest has it all!

Performances

11 Strings

Sat & Sun 4pm



11 Strings, made up of guitarist Willock Lee and erhu player Huang Yaqiong, is a band is built upon the perfect fusion of erhu and guitar, showcasing the essence of both jazz and non-jazz music. The musiciands create a harmonious blend of intertwining tones, jointly interpreting classic jazz pieces and original compositions that fuse elements of Eastern and Western music. 


They present improvisational performances and intricate harmonic structures of jazz, while incorporating the graceful melodies and emotions of Chinese traditional music. Through their playing skills and unparalleled musical expression, they guide you into a world of imagination and emotion in music.


Yodeling Contest

Sat & Sun 5pm

Ever tried yodeling? Here's your whimsical chance! We are presenting our uproarious Yodel Competition, exclusively for those who've never yodeled a day in their life. Imagine the thrill of letting out a hearty “yodel-ay-hee-hoo” with fellow competitors and an eager audience! Take to the stage, give it your best alpine shout, and walk away with a cuddly soft toy prize. Ready, set, YODEL!




EMASALSA

Sat 6pm

If you went to the recent CBD Craft Beer Fest then you’ll definitely recognize EMASALSA’s amazing moves that are guaranteed to get you on your feet and swinging your hips! Led by Teacher Ema, an ambassador of Latin American cultural communication, she has been promoting Latin American culture and music through dance for 19 years. She has worked with many Latin American embassies here in China and has taught thousands of students over the years.


TWIST DANCE

Sun, 6pm

Moonglow, a pioneer of vintage culture and a prominent figure in the entertainment industry for over 13 years, is set to bring an electrifying twist to CHEERS Summer Fest. Renowned for their passionate approach, they will introduce a captivating “twist interaction” inspired by the iconic dance scene in Pulp Fiction. Brace yourself for an unparalleled experience as Moonglow takes the lead and makes you twist.


Hula Hoop Dancing

Sat, 3pm, Sun, 8.30pm

Judith is a multi-skilled dancer who has been dancing and performing in and around Beijing since 2017. She specializes in many things, but her most impressive and captivating skill is definitely hula hoop dancing. For the CHEERS Summer Fest, she has curated a special performance that will show you the magic of hula hoop dancing firsthand!


DJ Half/N/Half

Sat 7-9pm, Sun 7-8.30pm

DJ Half/N/Half (Yinmai O'Connor) is a half-Chinese and half-Irish Los Angeles native who got her start DJing DANCEiSM events in 2009. Her mixed ethnicity is reflected in her signature fusion of tech house and world music. Half/N/Half has opened for some of the world’s top DJs and played at a number of notable venues.  


In Beijing, she was the Bunker party resident DJ and has performed at every club from Vics to DADA as well as the Modern Sky and MTA music festivals. Her own party line Eclectic Electric has hosted events at DADA, Rec Room and Lantern, and was featured in a documentary about the Beijing electronic music scene. 


MC Jennifer


Introducing and getting you all hyped up for the acts above is the CHEERS Summer Fest MC Jennifer Holstein. Jennifer may be known to you as the two time consecutive Beijinger Chili eating contest champion. Outside of her day job as head of recruitment for Pingo Space, she is also the head of social activities for the Beijing chapter of the Global Shapers, leading social action initiatives in the local community, as well as being the Beijing Jewish community coordinator. Jennifer will be injecting a big dose of fun and energy to the fest that will guarantee to put a smile on your face.

Wandering Acts

In addition to our on-stage performances we also have performers out and about sharing their talents all around the fest, so let’s take a look at our Wandering Acts!


Fred the Magician


With over a decade of magic experience, Fred will be on hand to add some amazement to the CHEERS Summer Fest. Involving cards, mentalism, mystery, and very little in the way of explanation, his performances come with two guarantees. First, you and your friends will spend the next hour discussing the impossible things you just witnessed, and second, you will never again play cards with a well-dressed stranger.


11 Strings

Sat & Sun 4.30pm & 5.30pm



You’ll be able to catch even more of 11 Strings as they’ll also be taking their performance to the crowd each day. You might be able to see a live performance right next to you, so be sure to keep an eye out for them!


Hula Hoop

Sat, 4pm &5.30pm, Sun 9.30pm

Our hula hoop dancer Judith will be bringing her hula hooping skills to you after her performance each day! She’ll be out and about showing off her moves and perhaps even teaching you a thing or two!

Game Zone

For the most kid-friendly fun and entertainment and fun at the CHEERS Summer Fest, there will be a Game Zone full of activities, games, art and more! Don't forget to check out the Kids Corner from 3-6pm for some fun crafts and mini carnival games for younger kids, kindly hosted by Bernard Steinkamp!



April X Tats


Each day you can come to the April x Tats area and get your face painted for free before 3pm. After 3pm things will switch up and you can get tattoos there instead.

Bean Bag + Ring Toss Game

Step right up, festival-goers! Ready to test your aim and win some fabulous prizes? Our bean bag toss game is the perfect blend of challenge and fun. Whether you're a seasoned pro or just looking for a joyful distraction, this classic game promises laughter, excitement, and maybe even a prize or two. Grab your bean bags, take a stance, and let those cans know who's boss! Dive into the festivities and may the best tosser win!


Darts

Courtesy of DARTSLIVE we’ll have electronic darts boards set up so you can put your darts skills to the test!


Coloring Wall

Creative kids will love the coloring wall with a specially designed picture where they can make their own mark at the CHEERS Summer Fest!




Bacchus Living Statue

Sat & Sun, 2-4pm

Beijing Blue Rose Society (BBRS) is displaying a living statue to represent the charming and sweet-talking Greek god Dionysus, also known as Bacchus, who was the God of Wine. Dionysus roamed the world, blessing people with the knowledge of wine and merry-making, and he will hopefully bring life to everyone at the festival. Feel free to pose and take a photo with him, but be warned, as a living statue he might not be as still as you think! 


Sip and Paint

Sun, 2-4pm

Learn some basic painting techniques and create memories with acrylic on canvas with CHEERS’ Sip and Paint artist Darya. No artistic experience is required and kids can take part with a non-alcoholic drink too! Darya will give you step-by-step clear instructions so just relax, sip, and paint!


Special Kids Drinks!

While mommy and daddy are enjoying a tipple, kids can also enjoy some family-friendly sparkling drinks such as Apple Spritz (apfelschorle), Orange Spritz (orangenschrole), or Hawaiian, Lychee and Grapefuit bubbles!
